Each month a new set of wines that have not made their way
into the state Connecticut yet will be on sale at some of the greatest prices
available. So stop by and see what
becomes available as the days go on.
This current Pre-Sale
that we are offering to our wonderful customers is a one that we are extremely excited about; another release of some of the
famed wines from Domaine de la Janasse out of the Rhone
Valley in France. Naturally, the wines
of Janasse are of Sabon heritage, a name synonymous with cutting edge, top
flight Chateauneuf-du-Pape/Rhone wine. The 2009 is a very, very promising vintage with
top producers (i.e. Janasse) making some excellent wine.
As you can see from what is below, there isn’t a lot of any
of these available given the hype and press of the amazing 2009, but these
wines are the perfect wines to drink while waiting for the top cuvees to come
around, as it’s going to probably be awhile for them to start truly showing.
2009 Domaine de
la Janasse Cotes du Rhone Villages Terre d'Argile – Suggested $29.99
ON SALE $18.99
The 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Terre d’Argile is sensational.
Notes of black currants and cherries as well as hints of charcoal, truffle, new
saddle leather and earth all jump from the glass of this blend of 70% Grenache
and the rest mostly Mourvedre with a touch of Carignan. Aged completely in
foudres and older small barrels, it is dense ruby/purple, full-bodied, opulent,
and ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years.

2009 Domaine de
la Janasse Cotes du Rhone les Garrigues – Suggested $47.99
ON SALE $35.99
The old-vine 100%
Grenache cuvee, the 2009 Cotes du Rhone Les
Garrigues (from 80- to 90-year-old vines) is sensational. Gorgeous levels of
garrigue, kirsch, creosote, licorice, damp earth and lavender are all present
in this dense ruby/purple wine. Topping the scales at 15.4% alcohol, this is a
blockbuster Cotes du Rhone to drink over the
next 7-8 years. (By the way, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone
Les Garrigues is absolutely out of this world at present, should anyone still
have some.)

2009 Domaine de
la Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape – Suggested $69.99 ON SALE $53.99
The 2009
Chateauneuf du Pape is probably one of the strongest “regular” efforts I have
ever tasted from Sabon. This dense purple blend of 75 to 80% Grenache and the
rest Mourvedre and Syrah, aged in truncated wood cuves and foudres, has a
beautiful, sweet nose of black cherry jam intermixed with roasted herbs, black
currants, forest floor and a hint of charcoal. The wine has great intensity,
full-bodied opulence, and a striking seductiveness that is already
irresistible. It should continue to drink well for 12-15 years.
