~ 90 Pts ROBERT PARKER
The outstanding 2011 Shotfire Shiraz (aged 14-16 months in American and French hogsheads) delivers considerable value and flavor authority. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of blackberries, black currants, licorice, graphite and subtle barbecue smoke. Rich, fleshy and dense, it is best consumed over the next 3-4 years.
Wine maker notes
When the Clarke forbearers discovered gold in 1870 at the Lady Alice mine in the Barossa goldfields, so began a family dynasty intrigued by geology. A fine legacy that is reflected today in the terroir of our vineyards. The Shotfire range immortilises the Shotfirer’s hazardous job of setting and lighting the charges in the mines.
The Thorn-Clarke Philosophy
Our ancestors settled in the Barossa in the 1870’s and for six generations we have been involved in the wine industry. Over those 140 years a lot has changed in the Barossa however many features of the region have remained constant, many of the observations over the years have been the foundation for what is today our philosophy.
We take a long-term view of the future, and out goal is to ensure our children and the next six generations inherit a successful, respected, and environmentally sustainable business.
We recognise and value the role that our suppliers, distributors, retailers and customers play in this goal and we seek to develop long-term partnerships based on loyalty, trust and quality.
