Drinking Good Never Cost So Little …
Calling all Francophiles, this week’s wine is an absolute gem. A find we unearthed when meeting with one of our most valued suppliers for imported wine. Their portfolio always seems to have a value play and today’s offer may very well be one of the best we’ve come across in quite some time. Moreover, we played hardball and managed to score an insane deal on a very limited quantity.
Chateau des Sources is a beautiful property on the edges of the Southern Rhone Valley in the appellation Costieres de Nimes. Home to many quality vineyards, this area was once favored among the Ancient Greeks for the outstanding red wine produced here. Native varietals utilized to craft this tasty red include Grenache, Syrah & Mourvedre – a classic blend of the Southern Rhone.
So what makes this wine so special? First & foremost it comes off the 2019 vintage which by every critical account was a top year. In fact, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate issued a vintage score of 96 points and refers to it simply ‘Extraordinary’. On first sniff we knew this wine was everything you could ask for in a Rhone red – rich with fruit, savory edges, soft tannins & a long finish. But what about the price?
This wine has been spotted around the country for $17 a bottle, and for anyone who pays this much – they’ll be greeted with a wine worthy of the price. Yet we managed to score the last remaining stocks of this vintage at just $12.99 per bottle. Better yet, buy a case to pay just $11.04. That’s drinking good for a lot less. |
