The Scofflaw Cocktail

The word scofflaw describes those that flout the law and was frequently used to name individuals who imbibed during prohibition.  The Scofflaw Cocktail made its debut at Harry’s Bar in Paris in 1924.  The drink found its way into American speakeasys where it was enjoyed behind closed doors during prohibition.  The Scofflaw Cocktail has fallen into obscurity but when we put this recipe to the test, found it to be “timeless classic” worthy of reviving.  Give it a shot!

The Scofflaw Cocktail

In a shaker glass filled with ice add:

  • 1 ½ Ounces Rye Whiskey
  • ¾ Ounce Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • ¾ Ounce Dry Vermouth
  • ½ Ounce Grenadine
  • 1 Dash Orange Bitters

Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with an orange twist.
